Position Description:
| Springfield College, a private institution with a residential campus and outstanding facilities, programs, and services in Springfield, Massachusetts, is accepting applications for the director of the counseling center.
This twelve month position is responsible for the overall organization and administration of the counseling center, reports to the vice president for student affairs, and is a key component of the student affairs division leadership team. The responsibility of the counseling center staff is to enhance the quality of campus life through the coordination of services and programs aimed at meeting the psychological and developmental needs of the college community, as well as the goals and mission of the college.
The director will be responsible for organizing and administering counseling and outreach services; program development and presentations; consulting with individuals and departments throughout campus; conducting trainings and providing educational programs; and providing supervision for graduate students and professional staff. Clinical responsibilities include: clinical services and/or referral for students and their families, provision of crisis intervention services, and serving as a member of the behavioral intervention team.

Position Qualifications:
| Springfield College is committed to educating students to become tomorrow’s professionals and leaders and offers a wide variety of graduate concentrations in the field of mental health, marriage and family therapy and psychology. A new doctoral program in psychology (Psy.D.) will begin in the fall of 2012 and may offer opportunities for the director of the counseling center to supervise doctoral level students from the Psy.D. program.
The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, or related field completed or in progress and a minimum of five years of clinical and administrative experience. Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Massachusetts is required. The candidate should have at least two years experience in a college counseling center with experience working with college age adults and their families, as well as familiarity with systemic development and transitional issues. Excellent organizational and administrative abilities, effective writing and verbal skills, well-developed therapeutic and diagnostic skills, and compatibility with an environment conducive to teamwork and colleagueship are essential. Knowledge of, and comfort with implementation of electronic record management systems is necessary.
