Babson Library adheres to Article III of the American Library Association’s policy on privacy, which states:
“We protect each library user’s right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired, or transmitted.” (ALA Code of Ethics)
In accordance with this policy, the library will not reveal any personally identifiable information about individuals or the sources of information and services they consult to the extent permitted by law.
Personally Identifiable InformationThe phrase “personally identifiable information” refers to information that could reasonably be used to discover your identity. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Your name
- Your address
- Your e-mail address
- Your Springfield College ID number
- Your password
- Any combination of data that could be used to identify you such as your birth date, your zip code, and your gender.
Babson Library may be required to release personally identifiable information to certain law enforcement agencies who present proper authorization such as a search warrant, subpoena, or court order.
Although Babson Library makes every effort to protect the privacy of its users, we may be obligated to release private information to law enforcement agents in response to a search warrant, subpoena, or other lawful directive. Please also be aware that due to certain provisions in the USA PATRIOT ACT (Public Law 107-56), the library may be prohibited from informing you that we have even received such a request for information.
