The Occupational Therapy Department anticipates having at least four half-time Teaching Fellow positions available for the 2013-2014 academic year. Each of these positions provides 12 semester hours of tuition waiver and a $2000 stipend, divided equally between fall and spring semesters. Each Teaching Fellow must be a full-time Springfield College graduate student (registered for a minimum of 9 semester hours of academic credit during each semester). Teaching Fellows work 13-14 hours a week during regular office hours (weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.) for both the fall and spring semesters, for a total of 400 hours for the academic year. Qualifications include technology proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and Babson Library catalog and database searching; maturity, initiative and sound judgment; organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to self-check; and ethical and professional behavior in maintaining confidentiality. OT Faculty Teaching Fellows

These positions are open to new or returning graduate students who are familiar with the occupational therapy curriculum, with preference given to OT students. Applicants for these positions must have the skills and knowledge to assist faculty with class preparation, monitoring and posting of communication on class websites, proctoring of exams, assisting in lab activities, contact with community members for fieldsite placement, tutoring or mentoring of students, grading of assignments, and other support of teaching activities as needed. In general, Teaching Fellows must have previously completed the course(s) in which they are assisting with a grade of B+ or better. Positions that will be available for the fall include:

Research Teaching Fellow
Applicants for this position must have the skills and knowledge to assist faculty with two OT-only sections of RSCH 610 (Foundations and Methods of Research) during the fall semester, and to assist OT faculty in other course-related activities during the fall and spring semesters. This Fellow may not be enrolled in RSCH 610 while in the position; he or she must already have completed the course at Springfield College, or an equivalent graduate course at another college or university.

Neuroscience Teaching Fellow
Applicants for this position must have a good understanding of neuroscience, as evidenced by grades of at least B+/B+ in OCTH 512 and 513, or recent equivalent courses in another OT program. In the fall, this Fellow is responsible for monitoring class lectures, preparing review presentations and activities, running a weekly review session for OT students taking OT Neuroscience, and being available to tutor students two to three additional hours each week. In the spring, the Fellow assists with the Neuroscience and Occupation II seminar. This Fellow should be comfortable in an instructor role and should relate well to other students who request assistance. He or she will have access to a file of previous review materials and audiovisual resources. Other duties within the OT Department may be assigned during either semester.

OT Faculty Teaching Fellow(s)
This Fellow reports to one or more OT faculty to assist with special projects, which may include curriculum development, faculty research, or finding and organizing student resources. Specific responsibilities may include assisting with class preparation and grading, level 1 fieldwork placement, and managing materials and equipment for courses in the pre-professional and professional curricula.

OT Fieldwork Teaching Fellow

Open to any new or returning graduate student, this Fellow serves as an assistant to the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator. Duties may include writing letters, preparing mailings, maintaining records related to fieldwork scheduling and evaluation, contacting clinical fieldwork supervisors, and assisting other faculty in setting up placements for fieldwork incorporated into academic courses. Qualifications include computer skills (word processing, including mail merge, database design and maintenance, and some spreadsheet work); maturity, initiative and judgment in personal and phone contact with clinical supervisors; organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to self-check; and ethical and professional behavior in maintaining confidentiality. This Fellow must be available to work during regular office hours (weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.) for both the fall and spring semesters.
