Brian Magoffin a Finalist for National Media Award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Springfield College Assistant Director of Sports Communications Brian Magoffin has been named one of only two finalists for the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Grant Burger Media Award in the sports information category.
Magoffin was one of the main sports information representatives at the inaugural National Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Division III Volleyball National Championship as well as the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Regional Championship at Springfield College. Magoffin not only used traditional forms of print, radio, and television media to promote the events, but he also provided live streaming video for all Springfield College home matches through the institution’s website. He also enhanced coverage by coordinating video highlights and postgame interviews throughout the season.
“I’m very lucky to work alongside coach Moira Long and coach Charlie Sullivan and be able to promote their programs and their hard-working and talented student-athletes,” said Magoffin. “Thanks to the tremendous amount of success that each team experienced, this will certainly be a year that stands out in the storied tradition of both programs.”
The AVCA Grant Burger Media Award is an honor intended to recognize members of the media who have been involved in the advancement of the sport of volleyball. It is named in honor of Grant Burger, former director of sports information and associate director of the AVCA from 1988-1992.
The AVCA expanded the media award's scope in 2004-05 by having a national finalist in four different categories: broadcast, print, web and sports information/athletic communications. The finalist for the sports information/athletic communications category came from region winners from each of the NCAA divisions, as well as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Magoffin joins Dennis Koehl from Ohio State University as the two national finalists in the sports information category.
