September 13, 2011
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 13, 2011 – Springfield College is again ranked in the top tier in its category in U.S.News & World Report's 2012 edition of “Best Colleges,” by U.S.News Media Group. The 2012 rankings were released today, and Springfield College appears in the category of Best Regional Universities – North Region.
“We are delighted that this popular resource continues to give testimony to the quality education that is available at Springfield College,” said Richard B. Flynn, Springfield College President, in response to the ranking. “Students consider many factors when applying to college, including academic programming, facilities, activities, athletic and recreational programs, campus life, cost, and availability of financial aid. The measures reported by ‘U.S.News’ give further support of the excellence of a Springfield College education.
“We prepare students for leadership in their chosen career fields of health sciences, human and social services, sports and movement studies, education, business, or the arts and sciences. And, we remain among the most affordable private colleges in the Northeast, without sacrificing the top-tier excellence for which we have become internationally known.”
The exclusive rankings are available today at www.usnews.com/colleges. They will also be published in U.S.News & World Report's 2012 edition of “Best Colleges,” available on newsstands on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Throughout the past 27 years, the U.S.News college rankings, which group colleges and universities according to the categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, has grown to be the most comprehensive research tool for students and parents considering higher education. The Best Colleges ranking package, which includes extensive editorial content and multimedia resources, covers a range of topics including college admission, selection, financing, calendar of events and deadlines, and videos.
Springfield College is classified within Best Regional Universities, which includes institutions that award bachelor’s degrees, plus at least 50 master’s degrees and fewer than 20 doctoral degrees annually. U.S. News further divides that classification into four regions: north, south, midwest and west.
U.S. News annually ranks accredited colleges and universities in the nation by several widely accepted indicators of excellence. Among the many factors weighed are peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, and graduation rate.
