Sports Experts in International Partnerships Will Speak at Springfield College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 18, 2011 -- A panel of experts in international partnerships in sports will be the featured speakers at the 18th Annual Weckwerth Lecture, Springfield College’s premier scholarly event in the field of sports management and recreation, on Thursday, April 21, 2011, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in Fuller Arts Center, on the campus. The event is open to the public free of charge.

Speaking will be Paul Lambert, vice president of programming and guest experience at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Dimitris Gargalianos, associate professor at Democritos University of Thrace in Komontini, Greece, and Mike Lehr, executive vice president of business development for Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment and chief executive officer of the Worcester Sharks.

Students and others in the field of sport management and recreation will hear presentations and participate in discussions on global marketing, Olympic strategic programming, hockey expansion to China, and economic development through sport.

The Weckwerth Lecture annually brings leading experts in the fields of sport management and recreation to Springfield College to address emerging trends in these fields. The lecture is named in honor of the late Charles F. Weckwerth, who was a distinguished Springfield College professor of humanics.

Springfield College offers bachelor’s degree programs in sport management and recreation management and master’s degree programs in sport management, therapeutic recreation management, and recreation management. Career opportunities in these fields are expanding as Americans have increasingly more time and options for leisure.
