Springfield College Receives Super 60 Award as Major Force in Regional Economy
November 2, 2010SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 2, 2010 – Springfield College was honored with the 2010 Super 60 Award by the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield (ACCGS) at the award recognition program, on Oct. 29, at Chez Josef, in Agawam, Mass.
The college ranked second in the total revenues category in recognition of its revenues and economic role in the community. The college has received the award in previous years.
Responding to the announcement, Springfield College President Richard B. Flynn said, “Springfield College enhanced its economic impact on the region this year by completing major campus improvement projects. Chief among them were the construction of a new campus union and renovation of the historic Judd Gymnasia.
“We are pleased that, while fulfilling our mission of educating tomorrow’s leaders, Springfield College continues to benefit the region as one of its largest employers and purchasers of local goods and services, and by attracting thousands of visitors to the area.
“Beyond revenues, we remain committed to improving the quality of life in the region through our many services. Annually, our students contribute more than 150,000 hours of volunteer work. Grants that we leverage support many community programs, and our on-campus educational and leadership-development programs serve hundreds of local children.”
Congratulating the honorees, ACCGS President Russell Denver said, “We’re honoring individual companies and the people who manage them, but we’re also celebrating the sum of what the 60 companies mean for this region, and that is a vibrant, diversified economy – a chain with many strong links.”
Nominating the college was the law firm of Cooley, Shrair, P.C., counsel to the college. Nominees are private institutions or companies with revenues of at least $1 million in the last fiscal year and which are based in Hampden or Hampshire counties or are ACCGS members.
