SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Aug. 17, 2010 – Springfield College is again ranked in the top tier in its category in “America’s Best Colleges” by U.S.News Media Group. The 2011 rankings were released today, and Springfield College appears in the category of Best Regional Universities – North Region.
Responding to the ranking, Springfield College President Richard B. Flynn said, “We are pleased that this popular resource for high school students and parents has, once again, attested to the excellence of education at Springfield College. College selection is a personal process for each student. It involves many factors, such as the measures reported by U.S. News, and also academic programs, facilities, activities, athletic and recreational programs, campus life, location, cost, and availability of financial aid.
“Springfield College has been the right choice for students preparing for leadership careers in the health sciences, human and social services, sports and movement studies, education, business, and the arts and sciences. We are committed to continuing our top-tier excellence while remaining one of the most affordable private colleges in the Northeast.”
The exclusive rankings, which include more than 1,400 colleges and universities nationwide, are available today at www.usnews.com/colleges. They will also be published in the September issue of “U.S.News & World Report,” available at newsstands Tuesday, Aug. 31. The “2011 America's Best Colleges” guidebook will be available on newsstands on Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Over the past 26 years, the U.S. News college rankings, which groups colleges and universities according to the categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, has grown to be the most comprehensive research tool for students and parents considering higher education. The America’s Best Colleges ranking package, which includes extensive editorial content and multimedia resources, covers a range of topics including college admission, selection, financing, calendar of events and deadlines, and videos.
Springfield College is classified within Best Regional Universities, which includes institutions that award bachelor’s degrees, plus at least 50 master’s degrees and fewer than 20 doctoral degrees annually. U.S. News further divides that classification into four regions: north, south, midwest and west.
U.S. News annually ranks accredited colleges and universities in the nation by several widely accepted indicators of excellence. Among the many factors weighed are peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, and graduation rate.
