Springfield College Board of Trustees re-elects Griggs, Sullivan, Coupe

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., June 24, 2010 – The Springfield College Board of Trustees re-elected Sally M. Griggs of Northampton, Mass., as chair; Robert M. Sullivan, Jr., of Longmeadow, Mass., as vice chair; and Douglass L. Coupe of Bluffton, S.C., as secretary at its annual meeting, on May 21, on the campus, the college announced today.

Griggs, a member of the college’s board of trustees since 1999, is a long-time community volunteer and a member of the Clarke School for the Deaf/Oral Education Center Board of Trustees and the Hampshire Regional YMCA Board of Directors. She is a graduate of Vassar College.

Sullivan is president and owner of The Sullivan Companies, and has been a member of the Springfield College Board of Trustees since 2000. He has served on the boards of directors or as a trustee of numerous area health, educational, youth, cultural, business and civic organizations, and of various businesses.

Coupe, who is the retired vice president of State Street Global Advisors, has been a member of the board of trustees of the college for 14 years. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and certificate of advanced studies at Springfield College.

Springfield College graduates re-elected to the Springfield College Board of Trustees were Denise Alleyne of Chestnut Hill, Mass.; Charisse Duroure of Wakefield, R.I.; and Coupe. Alleyne, who also earned her master’s degree at the college, is vice president for student services at Pine Manor College, and Duroure is spa director at MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort.

Also re-elected were J. Michael Wallace of Longmeadow, Mass., a partner at C&W Realty Co., and Harold C. Smith of New York, N.Y., the retired president, chief executive officer, and chief investment officer of the YMCA Retirement Fund. Wallace, a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Western New England College School of Law, also earned an L.L.M degree at Boston University. Smith received his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Ursinus College, master’s degree from Union Theological Seminary, M.B.A. from New York University, and an honorary doctoral degree from Springfield College.

Kimberly B. Ayer of Gales Ferry, Conn., was elected student trustee. Ayer is a fourth-year student whose major field of study is athletic training.
