Springfield College Board of Trustees Elects Griggs, Coupe, Sullivan
June 15, 2009SPRINGFIELD, Mass., June 15, 2009 – The Springfield College Board of Trustees re-elected Sally M. Griggs of Northampton, Mass., as chair, and Douglass L. Coupe of Bluffton, S.C., as secretary at its annual meeting, June 12, on the campus, the college announced today. Robert M. Sullivan, Jr., of Longmeadow, Mass., was elected vice chair.
Announcing the elections, Springfield College President Richard B. Flynn said, “Sally Griggs, Doug Coupe, and Bob Sullivan have been in key positions on our board during the largest comprehensive campaign in our history; extensive campus renovations and construction; and a period when the college received local, state and national recognition for its community involvement. Their expertise will be invaluable as we continue to advance the college in educating tomorrow’s leaders.”
Griggs, a member of the college’s board of trustees since 1999, is a longtime community volunteer and a member of the Clarke School for the Deaf/Oral Education Center Board of Trustees and the Hampshire Regional YMCA Board of Directors. She is a graduate of Vassar College.
Sullivan is president and owner of The Sullivan Companies, and has been a member of the Springfield College Board of Trustees since 2000. He has served on the boards of directors or as a trustee of numerous area health, educational, youth, cultural, educational, business, and civic organizations, and of various businesses.
Coupe, who is the retired vice president of State Street Global Investor Services, has been a member of the college’s board of trustees for 14 years. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and certificate of advanced studies at Springfield College.
Newly elected to the Springfield College Board of Trustees was Dr. Lisa B. Emirzian of Longmeadow, Mass. Emirzian is a fellow of the International College of Dentists and a member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, American Association of Women Dentists, American Dental Association, and Massachusetts Dental Society. She is also an assistant clinical professor in the Advanced Esthetic Program at Tufts University. Emirzian graduated from Springfield College and Tufts Dental School.
Iain Bradbury of Lee, Mass. was elected student trustee. Bradbury is a fourth-year student whose major field of study is movement studies teacher preparation.
Re-elected to three-year terms on the college’s board of trustees were Robert M. Sullivan, Jr., and John A. Odierna of Longmeadow, Mass.; William A. Burke III of East Longmeadow, Mass.; Herbert H. Jervis of Amelia Island, Fla.; and Mel Zuckerman of Tucson, Ariz.
Thane A. Pressman of Elk Rapids, Mich., was elected emeritus trustee. Pressman was a corporator of the college for five years and a member of the board of trustees for 15 years. He served on numerous board committees, including the Executive Committee, and was chair of the Institutional Advancement committee for four years.
