Chun K. Wun, Ph.D., a professor of biology at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., served as an invited research professor at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France, from 1997 to 2010.  He received a bachelor’s degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1964, a master’s degree from Springfield College in 1969, and a master’s degree and doctorate in 1971 and in 1974, respectively, from the University of Massachusetts. Courses he currently teaches include Bioscience, Medical Microbiology, General Microbiology, and Applied Microbiology, Virology and Immunology.

Wun was recognized as the instructor who has had the most influence on their careers by the Springfield College Physician Assistant Program Class of 2009 and was elected by the students to receive their Excellence in Teaching Award.  He is the first professor in the academic phase of the program to be honored with this award.

His scientific achievements have also earned him the following national and international honors:

• He has been an elected fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.
• He has been bestowed twice the prestigious Difco Award by the American Public Health Association, and has accepted repeated invitations to join delegations of international scientists to partake in professional conferences overseas.
• He has authored more than 40 research articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or presented at national and international professional colloquiums.
• He is one of the contributing authors of a publication of the NATO concerning pollution issues of drinking water and of the Encyclopedia of Science and Technology, McGraw-Hill Co., Inc.
• In 1989, a patent was granted by the U.S. Patent Office to Drs. Wun and Torre for a screening device for the hemorrhagic E. coli O157:H7. It is the first patent granted to an employee of Springfield College.
