SSW Co-Sponsers NASW-MA Legislative Education and Advocacy Day

NASW-MA LEAD Event SSW is proud to have co-sponsored the National Association of Social Workers Massachusetts’ Chapter’s Legislative Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD) at the State House in Boston on March 20th. Dr. William Fisher, Professor Miguel Arce, and Social Policy 2 students participated in the event. This is the fourth year that the professors provided an opportunity for social work students to strengthen their understanding and commitment to social justice through legislative advocacy on behalf of the individuals and community they serve. LEAD is an all-day event and students have expressed that it is one of the highlights of the Social Policy 2 class. It brings social work policy to life for them. There are inspirational speakers in the Great Hall of the Flags including activist and state legislators. Students participate and listen to committee reports (e.g. elder issues, discrimination, and equity issues) and updates on various legislation related to social work and client services, and opportunities to engage with legislators.
