About the SculptorElden Tefft is widely recognized as the father of modern-day bronze in the United States. He founded the sculpture program at the University of Kansas, where he taught for 40 years. During his tenure, he built two bronze foundries at the university and consulted and built many additional foundries throughout the world. In 1960, Tefft started the International Sculpture Conferences and Center, which became the world’s largest association of sculptors. Since 1990, Tefft has been professor emeritus at the University of Kansas and sculpts full-time in bronze and stone.
Tefft spent seven years working on the sculpture at Tefft Terra, his studio in Kansas. Three castings have been of James Naismith. Springfield College received the first. An identical casting will be delivered to Almonte, Canada, where Naismith was born.
