Here’s Why We
Torture You with All
This (sigh) Chemistry
a lecture by
Dr. Paul Kelter
given 19 April 2006
Our goal in our brief time together is simple: to look at some examples of why your teachers find chemistry so much fun to teach, while at the same time being so deeply related to the health sciences. This love of learning our subject begins in the first-year course, where the action pharmaceuticals, the mechanism of pesticide action, ion content in the heart, solubility of vitamins based on structure, the structure of the chemical in food and more relate deeply to the fundamental principles of chemistry. We’ll do some chemical demonstrations to bring home some of the key points.
