Addiction Studies Concentration

The mission of the Addiction Studies Concentration is to assist you in becoming an effective addictions counselor by equipping you with the knowledge, competency, and skills needed to prepare for a state credential in addictions counseling. The requirements for certification or licensure in addictions counseling vary in different states, and the Springfield College School of Human Services has designed the Concentration in Addiction Studies to prepare you to meet your state's requirements.

Graduation Requirements

Students must earn 120 credits to graduate. Of those credits, 48 must be taken at Springfield College (residency requirement).

Students must complete all three levels of required courses:
  • General Education Requirements (GERs)
  • SHS requirements
  • Addiction Studies Concentration requirements (Minimum 12 credits taken in residence)

SHS credit and course requirements

SHS Requirements

Students enrolled in the Addiction Studies ADST concentration must fulfill their requirements for Group Project in 12 credits of Addiction Studies courses under the course numbers ADST 330, 331, and 332 -- by completing a project that is focused on substance dependency or abuse.
