Football's McLellan Honored By Empire 8, D3Football.com
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 27, 2004 – Springfield College’s
Brian McLellan is the defensive player of the week in the Empire 8 Football Conference, announced today.
McLellan was also honored as part of the 'Team of the Week' by D3Football.com.
A senior defensive tackle from
Mansfield, Mass.,
McLellan led the Pride, which is ranked fourth nationally in Division III, to a 38-20 victory over Alfred (N.Y.)on Saturday. He made a team-high 9.5 tackles, including nine solo hits. McLellan, a graduate of King Philip Regional, knocked down two passes at the line of scrimmage, recorded a sack for a loss of 14 yards, and finished with two tackles-for-loss. Thanks in part to McLellan, SC recorded three second-half interceptions, including two in the fourth quarter.
For his career, McLellan, a three-year starter, has 19 tackles-for-loss (85 yards) and six sacks (60 yards).
The fourth-ranked Pride (2-0) has won 16-straight regular season games, a school record. SC hosts Utica (N.Y.) on Sat., Oct. 2 at 1:30 p.m. on Benedum Field.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980.
