Women's Lacrosse Holds On For 8-7 Win Over Mount Holyoke
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – April 8, 2003 - Springfield College freshman forward
Erin Looney (West Springfield, Mass.) scored a game-high four goals as the Pride held on for an 8-7 victory over visiting Mount Holyoke College in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s lacrosse action this evening on Benedum Field.
SC jumped out to a 4-1 lead with 8:15 remaining in the first half after the first of freshman forward
Holly Carmody’s (Wayland, Mass.) two goals. Two straight Lyon goals cut the lead to 4-3, before junior forward
Libby Beinert (Williston, Vt.) scored to give Springfield a 5-3 lead at halftime.
The two teams traded two goals before back-to-back Looney goals put SC ahead, 8-5, with 16:15 remaining in the game. Mount Holyoke scored two unanswered goals to pull within one with 9:28 remaining, but was never able to tally the equalizer.
Carmody also added an assist to lead Springfield, while freshman midfielder
Jenna Shea (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and senior midfielder
Anna Gordon (Glenmoore, Pa.) each notched two goals apiece for Mount Holyoke.
Springfield (6-3, 4-0 NEWMAC) remained undefeated in the conference, winning its sixth game in its last seven outings, while the Lyons (3-6, 0-3 NEWMAC) dropped their fifth-straight decision.
