



SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 14, 2007) – The Springfield College men’s tennis team lost to Wheaton College, 7-2, this afternoon in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference match in Norton, Mass.
With the win, Wheaton moves to 9-2 overall, and 4-0 in the NEWMAC. Springfield falls to 6-5 overall, and 2-2 in conference play.
Wheaton jumped to a 2-1 lead after doubles. The lone doubles highlight was produced by the No. 1 team of sophomore Andrew Constant (Kingston, N.Y.) and junior Joe Lisi (Southbridge, Mass., who won their match, 9-8. SC’s only other win on the afternoon came at No. 5 singles as freshman Trevor Romanzi (Bayshore, N.Y.) remained hot with a straight set, 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Springfield will attempt to play tomorrow at Amherst at 1:30 p.m. (weather permitting).

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
