Women's Track and Field Puts Up Good Showing at Harvard Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., December 9, 2006 – The Springfield College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed in the Harvard Invitational at Harvard’s Gordon Track & Tennis Center earlier today. It was a non-scoring meet, thus there were no team scores.

This was the last competition for the Springfield College indoor track and field teams before the semester break.

On the women’s side, the top individual finish was produced by sophomore Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.) in the weight throw. She placed third with a throw of 14.82 meters. In the same event, senior Rachel DiSaia (Waterford, Conn.) placed sixth at 13.43 meters, while sophomore Sarah Waddington (Westerly, R.I.) placed eighth at 12.96 meters.

Another top SC performance on the women’s side came from freshman Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.), who placed fifth in the triple jump (10.73 meters), 10th in the long jump (4.99m), and 16th in the 200-meter dash (27.16). The 4x400 relay team finished sixth (4:14.12).

In addition, two other Pride performers placed 10th, including junior Alyssa Brigham (Penacook, N.H.) in the one-mile run (5:23.94), and sophomore Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) in the high jump (1.50 meters). DiSaia finished 11th in the shot put (10.70 meters). In the triple jump, sophomore Kayla Robertson (Peace Dale, R.I.) and freshman Kari Manning (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) finished 14th (9.99 meters) and 16th (9.93 meters), respectively.

On the men’s side, junior Steve Blanch (Delmar, N.Y.) had the top individual performance, a second-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 13.07 meters. In the same event, freshman Kyle Robert (Holyoke, Mass.) jumped 10.98 meters, placing 13th. Blanch also placed 10th in the long jump (6.39 meters).

Freshman Steve Headley (Wilbraham, Mass.) had a good day, finishing third in the 60-meter race with a time of 6.98 seconds and third in the 200 with a time of 22.63 seconds. Senior Jeff Cogan (Walworth, N.Y.) finished third in the high jump (1.95 meters). Another member of the Pride who had a good day was junior Dominic Uguccioni (Colrain, Mass.), who placed fifth in the shot put (14.57 meters) and eighth in the weight throw (14.48 meters). In the same two events, junior John Lewis (Fitchburg, Mass.) finished tied for sixth in the weight throw (14.86 meters) and 16th in the shot put (12.81 meters).

In other events, senior Dave Forrette (Chicopee, Mass.) placed sixth in the 400-meter run, while the SC 4x400-meter relay team placed eighth (3:30.39), and senior Peter Ferraro (Springfield, Mass.) took ninth in the 5000 (16:27.08).

Freshman Jermaine Bell (Boston, Mass.) finished 10th in the 60-meter dash (7.27) and 13th in the 200 (23.48). Freshman Matt Amendola (Milford, Conn.) placed 12th in the 60 (7.35).

Others who placed well were sophomore Chris Okerblom (Salisbury, Md.), 11th in the 500 (1:08.00); sophomore Eric Nacsin (East Longmeadow, Mass.), 11th in the 800 (2:00.25); and junior Tim Rehm (Waldrick, N.J.), 14th in the 400 (52.12).
