Men's Track and Field Places Second at Coast Guard Winter Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – January 26, 2008 – The Springfield College men's indoor track and field team came back from winter break and placed second at the Coast Guard Academy's Winter Invitational in its first meet back.

In the six team event, the Pride finished second with 152 points while the host Coast Guard Bears took down the meet with a score of 213.

Springfield had plenty of terrific performances in the meet, led by senior Mike Miller, who himself tallied 27 points for the Pride. Miller placed second in the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 8.27 as well as finishing second in the pole vault with a height of 4.19 meters. He also tied for first place in the men's high jump with a height of 1.86 meter and finished fifth in the shot put with a make of 12.75. He also finished eighth in the long jump (5.92m) and anchored the fourth-place 4x400 relay team.

Steve Headley claimed first in the 55 meter dash in 6.51 seconds while teammate Tom Brognano took second in the 200 meter dash in 23.72. Mike Griffin won the one-mile run in 4:29.78 and the 800 meter run in 2:00.79.

Teammate Christopher Quetant finished second in the 400 meter dash in 52.03 while Chris Oklerbloom took second in the 600 meter dash in 1:25.26.

The 4x400 relay team of Tim Rehm, Okerbloom, Kevin Behlmer, and Nickel Hay took second in 3:34.32.

Finally, Dom Uguccioni won the weight throw with a distance of 16.58.

The Pride travel up north to participate at Bowdoin next Saturday.
