Sylvia Honored ECAC Football co-Player of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 13, 2004 – Springfield College senior quarterback
Ryan Sylvia is the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Northeast co-Offensvie Player of the Week, announced today.
Sylvia, who hails from
Marion, Mass., shares the award with Mount Ida’s P.J. Matthews.
On Sat., Oct. 9, Sylvia had 30 carries for 197 yards and four touchdowns, and he also threw a 38-yard TD in a 56-27 win at Western Connecticut, which was 4-1 entering the game. The 197 yards was a career high for Sylvia. With the score tied at 14-14 entering the second quarter, he ran for three scores in a span of 13:13 to spark a 28-point second quarter and give SC a 48-21 lead at halftime.
Sylvia has several school records in his sight. He ranks third all-time at Springfield College in rushing touchdowns (41), points (246), total offense (3,752) and rushing (2,740 yards). Sylvia set an NCAA D-III record for most rushing TDs by a QB with 20 in 2003 leading SC to a 10-0 regular season.
SC is ranked No. 4 nationally in the American Football Coaches Association Division III poll. In the win over Western Connecticut, the Pride improved to 4-0 overall and won its 18th-straight regular-season game. SC hosts Plymouth State this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Head Coach Mike DeLong
Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980.
