Women's Lacrosse Too Much For Keene State, 14-8
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 25, 2004 – Springfield College junior forward
Erin Looney (West Springfield, Mass.) scored seven goals and added one assist to lead the Pride to a 14-8 win over Keene State in women’s lacrosse action this afternoon on Benedum Field.
Sophomore forward
Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.) added a goal and five assists for SC, while freshman forward
Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) chipped in three goals and an assist, all in the second half.
The Pride opened the game with six unanswered goals, including three by Looney that were assisted by Carmody, for a 6-0 lead with 10:28 remaining in the first half.
Keene State (2-2) would cut the lead to four on goals by sophomore forward
Kristal Lundegaard (Babylon, N.Y.) at the 8:31 mark, and junior forward
Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.) with 6:48 to go in the half.
Springfield freshman midfielder
Melissa Pond (Wayland, Mass.) scored a goal with :25 on the clock, before Owl senior forward
Erin Mehner (Stamford, Conn.) slipped in a goal with :04 remaining, as the Pride led, 7-3, after 30 minutes of play.
Mehner would net her second-consecutive goal only 1:34 into the stanza, before two straight goals by Looney gave SC a 9-4 advantage, with 23:31 remaining in the game.
The Pride would outscore Keene State, 5-3, over the final 14 minutes of the game, including three tallies by Eidse, to lead SC to its second-consecutive victory of the week.
Keene State senior forward
Natalie Kent (Billerica, Mass.) led the way for the Owls with three goals, while senior goalie
Jamie Litch (Addison, Vt.) made 12 stops in goal.
SC sophomore
Shannah Paddock (Dayton, Ohio) earned a win in her first career start in goal, making 10 saves.
SC (2-1) returns to action Saturday, March 27, hosting MIT in its NEWMAC opener at 1:00 p.m. in its third-straight game in the friendly confines of Benedum Field.
