Men's Track and Field Continue to Perform Well at Harvard Open

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (December 10, 2007) - This past Saturday, Springfield College's men had a pair of NCAA Championship qualifiers in their latest competition against teams from all three divisions in the Harvard Open. This non-scoring event was the second meet of the year for the Pride.

The men were led by sophomore Steve Headley in the 60 meter dash as he came in third overall in an all division competition with a time of 6.86, a time that qualified him for the NCAA Championships. He wasn’t the only one who qualified for the NCAA championship as senior John Lewis also qualified as he came in first overall with a toss of 17.67 meters in the weight throw.

In the 200 meter dash the men were led by freshman Nickel Hay, as he finished fourth overall with a time of 22.96.

The 500 meter dash had one top twenty finisher for the men. Junior Chris Ockerbloom finished first for Springfield as he crossed the line in 13th overall with a time of 1:07.91.

The best performances other than the two championship qualifiers came in the jumping events. Senior Mike Miller had two fifth-place finishes in both the high jump and the pole vault with heights of 1.9 meters and 4.25 meters respectively.

The final top ten finish of the day occurred when freshman Donald Tringue finished ninth overall in the shot put, as he threw a distance of 12.5 meters.

The next match for the Pride is not until next year as they will compete in the Coast Guard Invitational on January 26, 2008.
