WELLINGTON, Fla. – March 11, 2007 – Rachel Lampros scored five goals and added one assist in leading the Springfield College women’s lacrosse team to a 12-6 victory over Curry College this evening in Wellington, Florida. It was the 2007 opener for the Pride.
A senior attacker from Boxborough, Mass., Lampros was “on fire” in the first half, according to her head coach, Katie Hawke. Lampros led Springfield to a 9-1 halftime lead.
Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.), like Lampros also a senior attacker and captain, scored three goals and added two assists. “Both Lampros and Martell really led the attack,” said Hawke. “I was very pleased with their play, especially considering it was the year’s first game.”
Scoring one goal apiece for the Pride were freshman midfielder Alexandra Bazzano (Newington, Conn.), junior midfielder Lindsay Bugbee (Granby, Conn.), senior attacker Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.), and sophomore attacker Lauren Purdy (Brewster, N.Y.).
Anchoring the defense was freshman goalkeeper Lauren McAuley (Yorktown, N.Y.), who registered 14 saves, and “played extremely well”, according to Hawke.
Springfield next plays SUNY Brockport on Tuesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. SC will play a total of four games in Wellington on this Spring Trip. The Pride will also play Utica on the 14th, and Bowdoin on the 16th.
