



SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 5, 2006) – The Springfield College men’s tennis team defeated cross-town rival Western New England College, 7-2, this evening in a match at Springfield’s Appleton Courts.
With the win, Springfield is now 2-0, while WNEC falls to 0-1.
Springfield jumped to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles. SC then won four of the six singles matches. Springfield sophomore Andrew Constant (Kingston, N.Y.) had a good day, winning at No. 1 singles over sophomore Jason Lee (Scarsdale, N.Y.), 6-4, 6-1. Constant had earlier teamed with junior Joe Lisi (Southbridge, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles to defeat Lee and sophomore Alex Boutin (Bristol, Conn.), 8-3.

The match began with doubles play.
Toby Coffin G’01, enters his third year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
