Women's Lacrosse Falls To No. 2 Amherst, 20-9
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – April 15, 2003 – Despite a goal and two assists by Springfield College senior captain
Lindsay Reiniger (Rochester, N.Y.), the Pride fell to No. 2 Amherst College, 20-9, this evening on Benedum Field.
Amherst (9-1) jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two of senior midfielder
Mary Kate Allen’s (Springfield, Mass.) game-high four goals with 23:47 remaining in the first half. Springfield went on a 3-1 run to tie the game, 4-4, with 14:32 remaining in the half, before five unanswered Amherst goals, including a pair by junior midfielder
Jackie Sargent (Concord, Mass.), put Amherst ahead, 10-5, at halftime.
Springfield freshman forward
Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.) scored :20 second into the second half to cut the Pride deficit to 10-6, but a 9-1 Amherst run over the next 17:43 put the game out of reach for SC (6-4).
Amherst senior forward
Abby Quimet (Hatfield, Mass.) was credited with three goals and three assists as nine players scored for the Jeffs, which were a NCAA Division III Tournament semifinalist a year ago and the national runners-up in 2001.
