A balanced scoring attack that saw 10 players net at least one goal, the Pride 13 unanswered goals at one point bridging the two halves as it advanced to the semifinals. With the win, the Pride improve to 10-6 and will take on Wellesley at 2:30 pm at top-seeded Babson College. The Lyons’ season comes to a close with a record of 2-13.
The Pride raced out to a quick 3-0 lead just 2:41 into the game after Kaeleigh Lannan, Jennifer Zubkus, and Alexandra Bazzano all found the back of the cage. However, back-to-back goals from Ava Gottschall brought the visitors within one at the 22:57 mark. After Heather Dobson took a feed from Zubkus, she tip-toed the crease and jammed her shot past the near post to go up 4-2 with 17:25 on the clock. With the first half seeing both teams scoring at a break neck pace, the Lyons netted the next two tallies off goals from Danielle Babcock and Peggy Wefald to knot the game at four with 14:56 to play. Wefald tallied her goal after a pretty spin move off a Pride defender, and gave Coach Katie Hawke reason to call the first timeout of the game.
Out of the timeout, the Pride responded in impressive fashion, shutting out the Lyons for the rest of the opening stanza. In the final 14:56 of the half, Springfield rattled off eight unanswered goals to take a commanding 12-4 lead into halftime. The Pride held a 21-9 advantage on shots in the first half, as Bazzano led the way with three goals and an assist, including two scores in the eight-goal run for SC.
Springfield opened up the half tallying the first five goals of the stanza, including Bazzano’s tally just 34 seconds into the second half. Miriam Blumenfeld netted the lone goal of the half for the visitors off a feed from Gottschall at the 18:04 mark.
Doolan, Bazzano, and Lannan all finished with four goals, while Lampros added two goals and two assists. Lauren McAulay made three saves in the cage, all coming in the first half.
For the game, Springfield outshot Mount Holyoke, 36-11, including 15-2 in the second half. Gottschall led the way with two goals and an assist in the loss.
