



KISSIMMEE, Fla., March 13, 2007 - Springfield College junior righthander Stephanie Blackman (Stamford, Conn.) hurled a complete game, allowing just one hit and one run as the Pride defeated the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagles this morning at Osceola Field, 2-1.
To start the scoring in the bottom half of the second, freshman Jaimie Moran (Manchester, Conn.) led off with a single. Sophomore Aimee Cassella (Southington, Conn.) then doubled Moran home to put SC up early, 1-0.
In the top half of the third inning, Blackman gave up her lone hit on a two-out homer to tie the game at one apiece. In the bottom of the fifth, freshman Bryn Worrilow (North Babylon, N.Y.) hit a two-out single and then scored what proved to be the winning run off a double from freshman Michelle Wlosek (Nutley, N.J.). Wlosek went 2-for-3 in the game as the Pride improves to 3-2 overall on the season with the win.
Defiance 8, SC 7
Springfield College's late-inning rally fell short in the Pride's second game of the day as the Defiance College Yellow Jackets edged SC, 8-6. Defiance cruised to a 4-0 lead after three innings, and the Yellow Jackets led by an 8-2 margin after five innings of play.
The Pride would not go away quietly, however, plating four runs in the top half of the sixth inning to pull within two (8-6). SC was able to muster just one run in the top of the seventh, although, falling by an 8-7 score. The Pride falls to 3-3 overall on the season and will next face SUNY Plattsburgh on Thursday afternoon (Mar. 15) to continue its southern swing at 1:00 p.m.
Freshman Michelle Wlosek (Nutley, N.J.) collected a double and two runs batted in (RBI) despite the loss, as junior Denise Fumicello (Brockton, Mass.), and sophomores Amanda Lyons (Eastchester, N.Y.), Loni Rodriguez (Westfield, Mass.), and Aimee Cassella (Southington, Conn.) all collected one RBI apiece.
