



SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 16, 2006 – The 6-0 Springfield College football team has been ranked No. 1 in New England for the fifth straight week in the New England Division III Coaches poll, released Monday. SC has also been ranked #1 in the first four polls of 2006.
SC continued to strengthen its hold on first place this week. Last week, Springfield accumulated 14 first-place votes (out of 17). But this week, SC has recorded 13 first-place votes (out of 15). Overall, SC has amassed 148 points, while second-place Williams (4-0) has 132. Curry (7-0) has remained at No. 3 with 125 points and the other two first-place votes.
In addition, SC has been ranked 17th nationally (up five spots) by D3football.com, and has moved up two more spots to No. 15 in Don Hansen’s Football Gazette.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
