



SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 7, 2007) – The Springfield College men’s tennis team defeated Clark University, 9-0, this afternoon in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference match at SC’s Appleton Courts.
With the win, Springfield ups its record to 5-4 overall, and 1-1 in the NEWMAC. Clark falls to 1-4 overall, 0-2 in the conference.
Springfield jumped to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles. The highlight there was an 8-0 victory produced at No. 1 by the combination of sophomore Andrew Constant (Kingston, N.Y.) and junior Joe Lisi (Southbridge, Mass.). That duo later went on to win their singles in straight sets. Constant won at No. 1 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1, over Clark sophomore Adam Bisceglia (No. Granby, Conn.). Lisi won at No. 2 singles, 7-6(2), 6-3, over CU sophomore Ben Gross (Newton, Mass.). Also playing well for SC was freshman Trevor Romanzi (Bayshore, N.Y.), a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 5, and junior Guy Lepore (Bayshore, N.Y.)>, a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 6.
The match began with doubles play.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
