Football Ranked No. 19 In AFCA Poll
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 16, 2003 -- Springfield College is ranked No. 19 in this week's American Football Coaches Division III National Poll, announced Tuesday.
The Pride, which is 2-0, was ranked as high as 19th last season when it won its fourth Freedom Football Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in five seasons. SC is coming off a 22-14 win at Montclair State (N.J.) on Sat., Sept. 13. It was the Pride's sixth consecutive regular-season victory dating back to the 2002 season.
SC faces its first nationally ranked opponent of the '03 campaign this Saturday in Kings Point, which is ranked No. 25 in the latest d3football.com national poll. The Mariners feature All-American running back David McNeal, who rushed for 1,860 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. The Pride is 5-6 against teams in the top 25 since 2000.
Kick-off for Saturday's game, which is the FFC and home-opener for SC, is 2 p.m. at Benedum Field.

Head Coach Mike DeLong
Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980.
