SC Lands Three on Pre-Season All-American Football Team

was named to the Division III pre-season All-American first team by Football Gazette

Senior fullback Tim Lutgens
and senior co-captain linebacker Justin Fletcher
were named to the Football Gazette
pre-season All-America Third Team. Lutgens was also voted to the D3football.com pre-season All-America second team.
In their pre-season national polls, Lindy's Football Annual
had the Pride ranked 12th in D-III, while Street & Smith
ranked SC 16th nationally.
, a native of Victory Mills, N.Y.
, was a Football Gazette First-Team All-American and a D3Football.com Third-Team All-American in 2003. After spending his first two seasons as a reserve tight end, he moved to right tackle in last season and started all 11 games. Dewey was a major reason why the Pride led Division III in rushing (398.5 ypg) and ranked fourth in scoring (42.4 ppg). He was also named to the all-Freedom Football Conference (FFC) First Team, the New England Football Writers' Division II-III All-Star Team and the Football Gazette
All-East Region First-Team.
, who hails from Orwell, Vt.
, has emerged as one of the most dominant linebackers in the nation. Fletcher was named an ECAC Division III Northeast Second-Team All-Star and a Football Gazette
Second-Team All-East selection in ‘03. His 59 tackles were second on the Pride, while he also contributed with three sacks and three pass break-ups. Fletcher was named an FFC First-Team All-Star while garnering Academic All-District One College Division and FFC All-Academic team honors.
, who hails from Greenwich, N.Y.
, was the leading rusher on college football’s top-rushing team in ‘03. He compiled 1,307 yards and 14 touchdowns, and ranked second in the FFC in rushing (118.1 ypg), scoring (7.6 ppg) and touchdowns. Lutgens, who broke the 100-yard rushing mark six times last season, was a first-team All-FFC selection and a second-team all-region pick.
The Pride returns 16 starters from last season’s team that registered the first 10-0 regular-season record in the 111-year history of the program. The 2004 season opens when SC hosts Union on Sat., Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at Benedum Field.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74
enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more
