SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 23, 2003 -- Springfield College is ranked No. 15 in this week's American Football Coaches (AFCA) Division III National Poll, announced Tuesday.
This SC’s highest national ranking since the Pride finished No. 10 in the final AFCA national poll in 2000. The Pride is No. 24 in this week's d3football.com poll.
The Pride, which is 3-0 and 1-0 in the Freedom Football Conference, moved up four spots from last week’s poll on the strength of Saturday’s 49-28 victory over Kings Point (No. 25, d3football.com). It was the Pride's seventh consecutive regular-season victory dating back to the 2002 season.
In the win over Kings Point, SC rushed for 481 yards, which is the most by a Division III team this season. Defensively, the Pride held All-American tailback David McNeal to just 56 yards on 20 carries. McNeal entered the contest as the conference’s leading rusher at 143.0 yards-per-game.
SC is on the road for the third time in four weeks when it travels to New London, Conn., to face Coast Guard at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27.
