SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – February 17, 2007 – Nikki Hay was Springfield College’s top all-around performer at the 2007 New England Division III Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships today at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, Me.
Hay, a freshman from Norwalk, Conn., became a four-time All-New England performer overall by placing in the top eight in four different events. Three of those events were as an individual, while the other was part of a relay team.
As a team, SC finished sixth of 21 scoring teams at the Championships. Williams College captured first place overall with a total of 151 points. Williams was followed by Tufts with 109 points, Amherst 93, Bowdoin 72 ½, and MIT 59. Rounding out the top 10 was Springfield 41 ½, Colby 36, host Southern Maine 35, Middlebury 30, and Brandeis 29.
SC’s top place finisher was sophomore Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.), who captured second in the weight throw with a national qualifying toss of 50-5 ¼.
Hay took a pair of thirds in the long jump (17-1 ¼) and the triple jump (35-5 ¾). She also placed eighth in the 55-meter dash (7.67 seconds). Hay anchored the 4x200 meter relay team that placed second as a unit (1:48.55). She teamed with sophomore Katie Parente (Torrington, Conn.), senior Julie Ferdella (Leicester, Mass.), and freshman Nicole Reynolds (Riverside, R.I.).
Other SC athletes did well. Included were Reynolds, who placed sixth in the 400 (1:00.89), and sophomore Kayla Robertson (Peace Dale, R.I.), who placed sixth in the triple jump (35-2). Sophomore Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) tied for seventh in the high jump (5-0 ¼), and Meade placed ninth in the 600 (1:39.54).
