SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 30, 2003 -- Springfield College is ranked No. 14 in this week's American Football Coaches (AFCA) Division III National Poll, announced Tuesday.

This SC’s highest national ranking since the Pride finished No. 10 in the final AFCA national poll in 2000.

The Pride, which is 4-0 and 2-0 in the Freedom Football Conference, moved up one spot from last week’s poll on the strength of Saturday’s 49-10 win at Coast Guard. It was the Pride's eighth consecutive regular-season victory dating back to the 2002 season, and the seventh time in the last 13 regular-season games that SC eclipsed the 40-point mark.

SC hosts No. 13 Ithaca on Sat., Oct. 4 at 1:30 p.m. on Benedum Field. This is the fourth time in the past six seasons that Pride and the Bombers (3-0) enter this annual meeting undefeated. In fact, according to the national polls, the SC-Ithaca game is one of college football's premier contests. It is one of four games pitting teams ranked nationally in the top 15. The others are No. 14 Texas-No. 13 Kansas State; No. 2 Western Illinois-No. 6 Western Kentucky (Div. I-AA), and No. 11 Wisconsin-Stevens Point-No. 8 Wisconsin-Lacrosse (Div. III)
