NEW LONDON, Conn., January 20, 2007 - Springfield College freshman Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) won the triple jump event (34', 1.25"), finished second in the long jump (14', 8"), and was the final leg of the Pride's winning 4x200-meter relay team as SC finished first out of six teams this afternoon to win the Coast Guard Invitational.
The Pride totaled an impressive 176 total team points to capture the meet, beating out second-place Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU) by 45 points (131 points). Host Coast Guard finished third as a team with 122 points, followed by Connecticut College with 69 points, Rhode Island College (RIC) with 30 points, and King's Point with just one.
SC freshman Nicole Reynolds (Riverside, R.I.) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.01. The other member of the Pride women's track and field team to win an event was sophomore Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.), who captured the weight throw with a toss of 49 feet, three inches.
SC had an abundance of second-place finishers on the day, including junior Alyssa Brigham (Penacook, N.H.) in the one-mile run (5:26.51), freshman Catherin Croce (Wallkill, N.Y.) in the 600-meter race (1:50.51), sophomore Katie Parente (Torrington, Conn.) in the 800-meter run (2:37.78), senior Alix Slayton (Ashburnham, Mass.) in the 3,000-meter race (11:34.85), and sophomore Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) in the high jump (4', 11").
The Pride will next compete in the West Point Invitational on Saturday afternoon, January 27th.
