SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 14, 2003 -- Springfield College is ranked No. 8 in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III National Poll, announced today.
This is the Pride’s highest national ranking ever. SC was ranked No. 10 in last week’s national poll, and in the final Division III poll of the 2000 season. In 2000, SC finished with an 11-2 overall record and reached the East Region Final of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
SC, which is 6-0 and 3-0 in the Freedom Football Conference (FFC), moved up two spots from last week’s poll on the strength of Saturday’s 21-7 win at Western Connecticut. The win, which was the Pride's 10th consecutive regular-season victory dating back to the ‘02 season, leaves SC as the lone unbeaten team in the FFC.
In this week’s ECAC Lambert Poll, the Pride is ranked No. 4 in the East. The ECAC Lambert Poll, which is voted on weekly by the media, recognizes supremacy in Eastern football in Divisions I, I-AA, II and III.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, the Pride travels to Plymouth, N.H., to take on Plymouth State in an FFC game. Kick-off is at 1 p.m.
