Looney Earns NEWMAC Player-Of-The-Week Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 29, 2004 -- Springfield College junior attack
Erin Looney is the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week in women’s lacrosse, announced Monday.
Looney, who is from
West Springfield, recorded 15 goals and five assists in a 3-0 week for the Pride (3-1, 1-0 NEWMAC). She started with three goals and three assists in a 17-2 win over Salve Regina (March 23). Looney tallied seven goals and an assist in a 14-8 win over Keene State (March 25). She finished the week with five goals, one assist, and three ground balls as the Pride defeated MIT, 20-10, in its NEWMAC opener on Saturday (March 27).
In the NEWMAC, Looney is the second-leading goal scorer with 18 goals, and is fourth in the conference with 23 points.
SC senior right-hander
Todd Royce is the NEWMAC co-Pitcher of the Week in baseball.
Royce, who was a second-team all-conference pick in 2003, shares the award with MIT’s Mike Batty.
Royce, who hails from
Chester, N.H., fired a three-hit shutout as the Pride defeated Babson, 1-0, in the opening game of a doubleheader on Saturday. He struck out two and walked two in his first start of the ’04 campaign, and won a spectacular duel with Babson’s Jason Kosow (2-1, 1.50 earned-run average), who allowed just three hits and struck out seven.
Last season, Royce was 4-3 with a 4.29 earned-run average.
