Switaj Chosen FFC Special Teams Player Of The Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 13, 2002 - Springfield College junior placekicker
Greg Switaj was named Freedom Football Conference (FFC) Special Teams Player of the Week (Oct. 13).
Switaj, who hails from
Ridgewood, N.J., also won the FFC Weekly Award on Sept. 9.
Switaj drilled a career-long 45-yard field goal in the driving rain in the Pride’s 18-15 win over No. 14 Western Connecticut State (Oct. 11). His field goal gave the Pride a 10-8 halftime lead. He also converted an extra point on SC’s first touchdown of the game.
Switaj’s six field goals leads the FFC. He also leads the conference in point-after percentage (91.3 %, 21-23 PAT) and is fourth in scoring (7.8 points-per-game).
With the win, SC (4-1, 3-0 FFC) took sole possession of first place in the FFC.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980.
