



SPRINGFIELD, Mass., September 26, 2007 – Melissa Weinstein (Allentown, Pa.) and Amy Shaw (Walpole, Mass.) won at No. 1 doubles to lead the Springfield College women’s tennis team to victory over cross-town rival Western New England, 5-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.
The No. 1 and No. 2 singles did not finish their matches due to darkness.
The Pride pick up its second victory in a row and are now 2-3 while WNEC falls to 4-2.
Springfield won at No.1 and No. 2 doubles with Weinstein and Shaw leading the way at No. 1 doubles, winning 8-2. Shannon Desroches (Belchertown, Mass.) and Jess Sousa (Falmouth, Mass.) teamed up to win No. 2 doubles, 8-5.
In the singles competition, Sousa topped Sara Peck, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles while Desroches picked up a victory at No. 5 against Devon Masses, 6-1, 6-3. Rounding out the win for the Pride was Sarah Russo's (Amsterdam, N.Y.) 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
