Women's Lacrosse Downs Smith College, 20-3
NORTHAMPTON, Mass., April 12, 2005 -- Springfield College senior forward
Erin Looney (West Springfield, Mass.) and sophomore forward
Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.) each scored four goals and added an assist, as the Pride cruised past Smith College, 20-3, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s lacrosse action Tuesday in Northampton.
SC (5-4, 3-1 NEWMAC) scored 13 times in the first half with the help of four goals from Martell and three assists from junior forward
Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.). The Pioneers (2-8, 0-4 NEWMAC) gave up four free position goals in the first half.
The Pride stayed hot in the second half adding seven goals, including two each from sophomore forwards
Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) and
Kerrigan Murphy (Hamden, Conn.). Carmody added two more assists in the second half to give her a game-high of five.
Defensively for the Pride, junior
Christine Nicol (Farmington, Conn.) recorded five ground balls and caused five turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper
Kristin Vaccaro (Southington, Conn.) faced only six shots, and saved three.
SC will host Western Connecticut State University in non-conference on Thursday, April 14 at 7:00 pm on Benedum Field.
