Fletcher Named To Academic All-District First Team
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 13, 2003 – Springfield College junior linebacker
Justin Fletcher (Orwell Vt.) has been named to the 2003 Academic All-District I College Division Football Team, announced today.
Fletcher, who is an exercise science major with a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average, moves onto the national ballot for the Academic All-America football team, which will be announced on Dec. 1.
Fletcher, a member of No. 6-ranked team in Division III football, is second on the Pride in both sacks (three) and total tackles (47). He is a major reason why the Pride ranks 13th in total defense (245.0 yards-per-game) and 15th in rushing defense (91.8 yards-per-game) nationally. In 2002, Fletcher helped the Pride to an 8-2 record and a No. 20 national ranking after totaling 51 tackles. He was named a 2002 Freedom Football Conference (FFC) First-Team All-Star and earned a FFC All-Academic team honors.
SC will attempt to go 10-0 for the first time in the 111-year history of the program on Sat., Nov. 15 at Union (N.Y.)
The Academic All-America Team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Head Coach Mike DeLong
Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980.
