Vacca Named To All-East Region Football Team
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 20, 2001 - Springfield College senior
Kevin Vacca has been selected to the 2001
Football Gazette All-East Region Second Team.
Vacca, a senior center from
Whitman, Mass., is a 2001 Football Writers Division II/III All-Star and a First-Team Freedom Football Conference All-Conference selection. A three-year starter at center, Vacca anchored an offensive front that helped the Pride establish one of the Division III's best rushing games. This fall, SC ranked seventh nationally with an average of 273.7 rushing yards-per-game. In 2000, the Pride rushed for an NCAA Division III record 4,275 yards (427.5 ypg). Vacca is also a three-time academic all-conference selection.
The team is selected by the sports information directors from the 50 schools that sponsor football in the East Region. The All-East Region first and second-team selections will now be on a national ballot used to choose the 2001 Football Gazette All-America team.
The Pride (4-5, 3-3 FFC) concluded the 2001 season with a 49-35 win at No. 16 on Nov. 10.
