Ben Bristol Named To Verizon Academic All-District I Football Squad
, Nov 19, 2001-- Springfield College junior Ben Bristol
has been named to the to the Verizon Academic All-District I Football team.
Bristol is eligible for the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America Football team, which will be announced in December.
, who hails from South Hadley, Mass.
, was one of 24 individuals named to the team. He is a sociology major with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.81. A two-year starter at right tackle, Bristol has been part of one of Division III's most productive rushing offenses. This season, he helped the Pride rush for 273.7 yards-per-game, which was seventh nationally. Last season, SC established an NCAA Division III single-season rushing record of 4,275 yards.
To be eligible for nomination a player must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's games. The Academic All-District I team is selected by the sports information directors of New England and New York-based institutions.
SC finished 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Football Conference. In 2000, the Pride won the conference championship with a school-record 11-2 overall record and a 6-0 mark in the FFC. SC advanced to the East Region Final of the NCAA Championship and ranked 10th nationally.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74
enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more
