SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 11, 2005- Springfield College freshman fullback Andrew Jackson (Pennsville, N.J.) has been named this week’s Empire 8 Conference Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
Jackson, who shares this week’s honor with Alfred University sophomore tailback Elmer Newsome, was also recognized by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) this week as a member of the weekly Honorable Mention list in the Northwest section of Division III.
Jackson, a graduate of Pennsville Memorial, rushed for four touchdowns and 223 yards in his first career collegiate start at fullback for the Pride in its 50-49 overtime win against Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) on Friday night, October 7, at Benedum Field. Jackson, who had accumulated just 27 yards on the ground prior to Friday’s game, carried the ball 35 times for an average of 6.4 yards-per-carry to go along with a game-high 29-yard scramble.
In the 50-49 overtime thriller over the Colonials, Jackson had two touchdown dashes for six yards, one for two yards, and another one-yard burst. Jackson also scored on a successful two-point conversion attempt, as the first-year fullback totaled 26 individual points on the day.
Next up for the Pride this weekend will be non-conference foe, Plymouth State University, as SC travels to Plymouth, N.H., for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, October 15.
