Davis And Switaj Earn FFC Weekly Awards
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 9, 2002- Springfield College sophomore fullback
Will Davis has been selected as the Freedom Football Conference (FFC) Offensive Player of the Week, and junior place kicker
Greg Switaj is the FFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week.
Davis, who is from
Cumberland, R.I., helped the Pride to a 69-0 win over Salve Regina (Sept. 6). In his third career start, Davis rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries (9.1 yards-per-carrry) in the first half. He ran for two first-quarter touchdowns (three yards and 40 yards) in a span of 3:57 to put SC in front 35-0. Davis rushed for 40 of SC’s 44 yards on the first drive of the game that resulted in a Pride touchdown.
Switaj, a native of
Ridgewood, N.J., had a career day kicking the football on Friday night. He hit all nine point-after attempts in the Pride’s 69-0 win over Salve Regina, and also converted field goal attempts of 21 and 26 yards. The three-year starter accounted for 15 points of SC’s 69 points in the game.
Senior defensive end
Dwayne Robinson was named to the FFC Honor Roll for his effort in the victory. The
Albany, N.Y., native registered six tackles, including three tackles-for-loss, and two sacks.
The Pride opens its FFC schedule at Kings Point (N.Y.) on Sat., Sept. 21.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980.
