Women's Lacrosse Shuts Down Babson, 13-4
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 20, 2003 – Springfield College sophomore
Erin Looney (West Springfield, Mass.) scored four goals and freshman
Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.) chipped in with two goals and four assists as the Pride downed Babson College 13-4 this afternoon on Benedum Field in its final regular season game.
The Pride jumped out to a 7-1 halftime lead, including two goals each by sophomore
Erin Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior
Libby Beinart (Williston, Vt.).
Three straight Babson goals, including two by sophomore
Libby Bryant (Arrowsic, Maine) cut the lead to 7-3 before five unanswered Springfield goals, including two by Looney, put the Pride up 12-3 with 5:39 remaining in the game.
With the win, SC (8-5, 5-1 NEWMAC) clinches the second seed for the upcoming New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament, which starts Thursday April 24. Springfield, the defending NEWMAC champion, will host an opponent to be announced.
