Yelle Named Women's Lacrosse Coach Of The Year As Five Players Voted All-NEWMAC
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - April 30, 2002 - Springfield College first-year head coach
David Yelle was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year while five SC players were voted to the all-conference team by the head coaches of the conference. The Pride won its first NEWMAC title and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship by winning the conference tournament Sunday on Benedum Field.
Yelle has led the Pride to a school-record 12-4 mark, including a 6-0 record in NEWMAC play. After losing four of its first six contests, Springfield has won 10-straight games, entering the NCAA Tournament.
Senior forward
Danica Ansardy (Woodstock, Vt.) was named All-NEWMAC for the second year in a row. The Pride's leading goal scorer this season, Ansardy finished eighth in the NEWMAC with 55 points (50 goals, 5 assists) and is two points shy of becoming SC's all-time leading scorer with 161 (141 goals, 20 assists) points to date.
Senior forward
Kim Dole (Old Chatham, N.Y.) was also named All-NEWMAC for the second year in a row. The Pride's leading scorer, she finished fifth in the conference with 63 points (48 goals, 15 assists) and is fourth on Springfield's career scoring list with 135 points (103 goals, 32 assists).
Junior defender
Lindsay Reiniger (Rochester, N.Y.) earned all-conference honors after leading the NEWMAC in assists, and finishing 12th with 43 points (16 goals, 27 assists). She needs four assists to become Springfield's all-time leader, and is the seventh in school history with 107 points (56 goals, 51 assists).
Freshman
Erin Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished first for SC with 53 ground balls and fifth with 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists). She joined sophomore
Kerry Hausdorf (Queens, N.Y.) on the all-conference team and were the Pride's top two defenders on a unit that held its opposition to a NEWMAC-low 7.6 goals per game.
Springfield will play in the first-round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Wednesday, May 8 with opponent, site and time to be announced.

Kristen Mullady ‘00, enters her fourth season as the head women’s lacrosse coach at Springfield College. A former standout for Springfield’s women’s lacrosse team, Mullady led Springfield to the NEWMAC Championship in 2012.
