Capotosto Wins Coca Cola Gold Helmet Award
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 16, 2002 -- Springfield College senior cornerback
Mike Capotosto won the Coca-Cola Gold Helmet College Division Award for his performance in the Pride's 18-15 win over No. 14 Western Connecticut on Friday, Oct. 11.
The Coca Cola Gold Helmet College Division Award is a weekly award given to the top Division II or III player. Capotosto and Northeastern's Shawn Brady, who won the University Division Gold Helmet, were honored at the New England Football Writers' Luncheon this afternoon at Harvard.
Capotosto, who is from Exeter, R.I., picked off a pass in the end zone with 2:34 in the third quarter as the Colonials tried to extend a 15-10 lead. He also had two passes defended and two solo tackles.
Captosto leads the FFC in interceptions (four/0.8 per game), which is tied for 17th nationally.
The first-place Pride (4-1, 3-0 FFC) host Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980.
