Women's Lacrosse Too Much For Wellesley, 19-5, In NEWMAC Action
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 2, 2005 -- Springfield College sophomore midfielder
Lisa Thomas (Whitman, Mass.) scored five goals as the Pride cruised past Wellesley College, 19-5, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s lacrosse this afternoon at Benedum Field.
SC (4-2, 2-0 NEWMAC) wasted no time scoring, taking a 4-0 lead just 4:33 into the first half. The Blue (2-6, 0-2 NEWMAC) then went on a 2-1 scoring run to make it a 5-2 game with 13:47 remaining in the first half. Two tallies each from Pride sophomore forward
Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.) and junior forward
Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.) helped SC mount a 6-0 run to end the half with a 11-2 lead.
The Pride opened the second half with four goals, two by junior midfielder
Rachel Lampros (Boxborough, Mass.) and two by Thomas, to extend the lead to 15-2 with 23:36 remaining in the game. Martell tallied two more goals with 15:12 remaining in the half, and freshman defender
Rachael D’Angelo (Plantsville, Conn.) finished off the scoring for the Pride with 9:26 to go in the game. Wellesley junior Katie Moseley scored her second goal of the contest with 6:07 left to play, and teammate Amber Evans tallied the games final goal with four seconds remaining for the 19-5 final.
SC will host Williams College in non-conference action on Wednesday, April 6 at 7 pm on Benedum Field.
